A UNIQUE JUVENILE SYSTEM

The Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) is a centralized assessment and evaluation center for the Department of Children & Family Services of Wayne County, Michigan.

The JAC was established in 1999, under the auspices of the Wayne County Department of Community Justice (now Wayne County Children and Family Services), to provide a visionary new approach to: reclaiming youths and families, making communities safer and managing dollars better.

By combining the best expertise in juvenile justice, behavioral health, education and community services, Wayne County created a county-based, culturally competent juvenile justice network. The JAC is the hub of a network of five Care Management Organizations (CMO’s) designed to serve all court-referred youths and families in Wayne County. Additionally, a county administered Juvenile Agency Information System (JAIS) database ties all county wide provider services together, monitors contract performance, tracks youths in the system and compiles accurate data and reports.
